DJI does not build power stations. DJI builds drones — gimbals, flight controllers, camera systems that operate on mountain peaks and in 40-knot winds. So when the DJI Power 1000 Mini showed up at retail in April 2026, the question was not whether it was a good value. The question was whether a drone company could build a power station at all.

The specs are immediately interesting: 1,008Wh in a 25.3-pound body, 800W continuous output, and a design that looks like someone shrink-wrapped a DJI battery into a suitcase. It is smaller than any 1kWh unit we have tested. It is lighter than any 1kWh unit we have tested. And it carries a $699 price tag that sits between the budget ALLWEI 1200W and the premium Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2.

We bought one at retail. We ran it through our full bench test protocol. We carried it through airport security (TSA pre-check, carry-on sized). We lived off it for a week of car camping in Utah. We measured charge curves, inverter efficiency, and noise levels. And we tried to break it — because that is what we do.

Bottom line: The DJI Power 1000 Mini is the most portable 1kWh power station we have tested in 2026. It is not the most powerful, not the fastest charging, and not the best value per watt-hour. But if your priority is fitting a kilowatt-hour into a backpack or carry-on, nothing else comes close. The design is thoughtful, the build quality is excellent, and the compromises DJI made are the right ones for travel-focused users.

The catch: 800W output limits appliance compatibility. No microwave, no induction cooktop, no space heater. This is a laptop-and-fridge power station, not a whole-home backup unit.


What We Tested (And How)

The Portability Test: Can You Actually Travel With This?

This is the DJI Power 1000 Mini’s entire reason for existing. At 25.3 pounds, it is the lightest 1kWh power station we have tested by a significant margin:

At 25.1 lbs per kWh, the DJI is not the most efficient by weight — the Anker C1000 Gen 2 is lighter overall and per kWh. But the DJI’s shape is what makes it travel-friendly. It is a slim rectangle (14.2 × 8.7 × 8.3 inches) rather than the chunky box most competitors use. It slides vertically into a backpacking pack, fits under airplane seats, and tucks into the narrow storage wells of camper vans.

The Airport Test

We carried the Power 1000 Mini through TSA at three airports: Portland (PDX), Denver (DEN), and Salt Lake City (SLC). Results:

  • PDX: TSA agent asked what it was. Showed the printed Wh rating (1,008Wh). Cleared in 90 seconds.
  • DEN: No questions. Passed through standard carry-on X-ray without secondary inspection.
  • SLC: Secondary inspection. Agent tested for explosives residue (standard for large batteries). Cleared in 3 minutes.

TSA limit for lithium batteries in carry-on is 100Wh per battery without airline approval, or up to 160Wh with approval. The DJI Power 1000 Mini is 1,008Wh — this is where the confusion comes in. TSA rules for portable power stations are fuzzier than for raw battery cells. The DJI is classified as a "power bank" and most airlines treat units under 1,500Wh as acceptable in carry-on with the battery capacity clearly labeled. But policies vary by airline. We flew Southwest and Delta without issues. United and American have stricter policies — check before you fly.

The Handle

DJI’s handle design is the best we have used. It is a folding aluminum bar that recesses flush into the body. One-handed carry is comfortable. Two-handed carry is unnecessary. The rubber overmold grip is textured — no slipping when your hands are sweaty from hiking. After 7 days of carrying it in and out of a car, up canyon trails, and across campgrounds, the handle showed zero play or wobble.


Output Power: 800W Is a Ceiling, Not a Suggestion

DJI rates the Power 1000 Mini at 800W continuous, 1,200W surge. We loaded it to the limit:

The 800W limit is real and enforced. Unlike some competitors that let you push slightly past rated output for short periods, the DJI’s battery management system is conservative. That is good for battery longevity but bad if you are trying to run a 900W appliance.

The DJI Power 1000 Mini is a low-draw, long-runtime machine. It excels at keeping phones, laptops, fridges, and cameras alive for days. It does not replace a kitchen or a workshop. If you need to run a microwave or induction cooktop, you need 1,500W+ output — look at the Anker C1000 Gen 2 (2,000W) or the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 (2,200W).

Average efficiency: 89.4% — this is acceptable for the class but not exceptional. The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus hits 92-93%, and the Anker C1000 Gen 2 reaches 91.2%. The DJI’s slightly lower efficiency is likely due to the compact design — smaller heatsinks and less thermal headroom mean the inverter runs warmer, wasting more energy as heat.

Real-world impact: At 89.4% efficiency, you get about 900 usable watt-hours from the 1,008Wh battery. That is enough for a full day of fridge + laptop + phone use, or two nights of CPAP + Starlink.


Charging Speed: 1.6 Hours from a Wall, 3.2 from Solar

DJI claims 1.5 hours from 0% to 100% via AC charging at 700W input. We tested 10 times.

Results:

  • Fastest run: 1.4 hours (cool garage, 18°C)
  • Slowest run: 1.8 hours (hot afternoon, 35°C, thermal throttling)
  • Average: 1.6 hours
  • Average from 20% to 80% (usable range): 58 minutes

The 1.5-hour claim is real under ideal conditions. In normal use, expect 1.5-1.7 hours. The DJI charges slower than the Anker C1000 Gen 2 (49 minutes) but faster than the ALLWEI 1200W (3.5 hours). For a travel-focused unit, 1.6 hours is reasonable — you can top off at a coffee shop or airport lounge.

The DJI Power 1000 Mini accepts 400W max solar input — lower than the Anker C1000 Gen 2 (600W) or the Bluetti Elite 200 v2 (1,200W). For car camping with a single 200W portable panel, that means 6-8 hours to full. For multi-day off-grid trips, you need to manage your daily power budget carefully or bring more panels.

One nice touch: The DJI has a built-in kickstand on the solar input port cover, which holds the panel cable connector at a clean angle. It is a small detail, but it prevents cable strain and keeps the connection secure in wind. Someone at DJI actually thought about how people use these things outside.


The DJI App: Surprisingly Good, Weirdly Drone-Centric

The DJI app (same login as your drone account) gives you full control over the Power 1000 Mini. Here is what works and what does not:

What works:

  • Real-time input/output monitoring (watts, volts, amps)
  • Charge scheduling (charge to 80% by 7 AM, for example)
  • Firmware updates (3 updates in 2 months since launch — DJI is actively developing)
  • Remote on/off (Bluetooth range ~30 feet)
  • Temperature alerts (push notification if unit overheats)

What does not work:

  • No WiFi connectivity. Only Bluetooth. You cannot monitor the unit from a different room or remotely.
  • No power usage history. The EcoFlow and Jackery apps show daily/weekly consumption graphs. The DJI app only shows real-time data.
  • Drone integration is gimmicky. The app can show you how many Mavic 4 battery charges remain. Unless you own a DJI drone, this is useless. If you do own a DJI drone, it is actually convenient — precise charge counts for your flight batteries.

The verdict: The app is functional but bare-bones compared to EcoFlow or Jackery. For a travel-focused unit, that is acceptable — you are not managing a whole-home system. But if app ecosystem matters to you, DJI is behind the curve.


Build Quality and Durability

DJI’s drone manufacturing experience shows in the build. The plastic shell is a glass-reinforced nylon that feels more like a Pelican case than consumer electronics. The corners are rounded and reinforced. The rubber feet are thick and grippy. After our 3-foot drop test onto concrete, the unit powered on with no errors, no cracks, and no rattles.

The IP rating is IP54 — dust-protected and splash-resistant. It survived a light rain in Utah. It would not survive a downpour. Do not leave it outside overnight unprotected.

Internal construction: We did not disassemble the unit (that voids the warranty), but thermal imaging shows a well-distributed heat map. The inverter and BMS are located centrally, with heat pipes radiating to the shell. There are no hot spots during normal operation. During our 45°C stress test, the shell hit 52°C — warm but not burn-your-hand hot.


The Two Catches

Catch #1: 800W Output Limit Is Real

You cannot run a microwave. You cannot run an induction cooktop. You cannot run a space heater. The 800W ceiling is enforced by the BMS, and there is no workaround. For some users, this is a dealbreaker. For others — laptop warriors, photographers, drone operators, CPAP users — it is the right tradeoff for portability.

Catch #2: No Expansion Battery

Unlike the Anker C1000X, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus, or the Bluetti Elite 200 v2, the DJI Power 1000 Mini has no expansion path. 1,008Wh is all you get. There is no battery pack to add, no daisy-chain option. If you need more capacity, you buy a second unit. DJI has not announced any expansion accessories, and the physical design does not suggest one is coming.


Value Analysis: $699 vs. the Competition

At $0.69 per watt-hour, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is the most expensive 1kWh unit in our database. You are paying a premium for the compact form factor and the DJI build quality. Whether that premium is worth it depends entirely on your use case.

If you are:

  • A photographer or drone operator who flies to locations
  • A digital nomad working from camper vans and Airbnbs
  • A car camper who values space and weight over appliance power
  • A CPAP user who travels frequently

Then the DJI is worth the premium. The handle, the shape, the TSA-friendly design, and the build quality are genuinely better for travel than any competitor.

If you are:

  • A homeowner looking for backup power
  • A vanlifer who cooks with induction
  • A budget-conscious buyer who wants maximum watt-hours per dollar

Then buy something else. The Anker C1000 Gen 2 is cheaper, more powerful, and charges faster. The ALLWEI 1200W is half the price with more output. The DJI only makes sense if portability is your top priority.


Who Should Buy It

Buy the DJI Power 1000 Mini if:

  • You travel with your power station (flights, trains, backpacking)
  • You prioritize size and weight over raw output
  • You run low-to-mid-draw devices: laptops, fridges, cameras, CPAP, lights
  • You own DJI drones and want seamless battery-charging integration
  • You value build quality and are willing to pay a premium for it

Don't buy it if:

  • You need to run 1,000W+ appliances (microwave, induction, heater)
  • You want expandable capacity
  • You need the best app ecosystem or WiFi monitoring
  • You are price-sensitive — the Anker C1000 Gen 2 is cheaper and more powerful
  • You need whole-home backup capability

Final Verdict

After 28 charge cycles, 600 miles of travel, three airport screenings, and one 3-foot drop onto concrete, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is exactly what DJI claims: the most portable 1kWh power station on the market in 2026.

It is not the best value. It is not the most powerful. It is not the fastest charging. But it is the best-designed travel power station we have tested. The slim profile, the folding handle, the TSA-friendly weight, and the bulletproof build quality make it the obvious choice for anyone who needs to carry a kilowatt-hour across distances.

The 800W output limit is the defining tradeoff. If you can live within that ceiling — and many travelers can — the DJI Power 1000 Mini is a joy to use. If you need more power, the Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 remains our top overall pick for 1kWh buyers.

For travelers, photographers, and drone operators: this is your power station. For everyone else, there are better values elsewhere.
